The NZ Diploma in Aviation

The New Zealand Diplomas in Aviation (Level 5 and 6) are established, internationally recognised qualifications that provide career pathways to become a pilot and work in the aviation industry. We have constructed our training programme to allow students to be accredited with Level 5 and 6 qualifications within the two years.

The courses have been designed to comply with the NZQA’s new objectives to remove the division of training courses and provide more consistency with the pilot training syllabus and outcomes. The qualification has been designed with three strands that are directed towards specific employment pathways.

Air Hawke’s Bay is approved to deliver all three strands:

Course entry requirements

You will have to undergo a selection process to apply for any of these courses. This involves submitting an application form with supporting documentation, and completing the ADAPT pilot pre screening assessment. This involves a ten minute online assessment which analyses both physical and cognitive skills. Visit NZ Skills Connect to view the test.

Successful applicants who meet the entry requirements will be invited to a full interview with Air Hawke’s Bay management staff.

What you’ll learn and gain from this course

Your Diploma in Aviation gives you various New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved and internationally recognised pilot licences, and a number of Ratings, dependent on the strands you chose to take. The qualification prepares you for employment in aviation operations and aviation related industries.

The programme is integrated with aviation theory and practical flying experience and provides a solid grounding in all technical and regulatory aspects of flying an aircraft.

The programmes have been developed to prepare students for responsible positions in the aviation industry, including flying in various single-engine and multi-engine aircraft, pilot and staff instruction, and airline operations. The formal certificate awarded to graduates after satisfactorily completing the NZ Diploma in Aviation will be Level 5 or 6.
